What Is A Domain Name?

A domain name is the unique address used to identify a website on the internet. It is the text that users type into a browser’s address bar to access a website (e.g., www.example.com). Domain names are easier to remember than IP addresses, which are numerical. They consist of two main parts:

  1. The name (e.g., “example”) – This is the unique identifier for the website.
  2. The extension (e.g., “.com”, “.net”, “.org”) – This is the suffix that classifies the domain type.

Domain names are registered through domain registrars and are usually renewed annually. They are essential for building a website’s online identity and presence.
