When is my work protected?

Your work is automatically protected by copyright the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible medium of expression, such as written on paper, recorded, or stored in a digital file. This protection is granted as soon as the work is created, without needing formal registration. However, registering your work with the copyright office provides additional legal benefits, such as the ability to sue for statutory damages in case of infringement.
